Local daycare worker charged after toddler dies at facility

LENOIR, N.C. – A local day care worker is now facing a charges after a 16-month-old toddler dies on her first day at the facility. It happened Monday at Creative Beginnings Daycare in Lenoir. A man who says he’s the child’s father wrote on social media that the little girl, called Maddy, was put down for a nap and never woke up. He claims the daycare didn’t check on her like they were supposed to. He also says his child was healthy.

Police were called to the facility for a cardiac arrest. MEDICs attempted to revive the toddler. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police arrested 29-year-old Alexandra Coffey on Wednesday. She is charged with involuntary manslaughter and was given half a million dollars bond. We have also learned that the state has suspended the daycare’s business license.
