Cool & damp days ahead
Highs will struggle to clear 60º across the Piedmont and Foothills on Tuesday.
There’s not much sun to be found on this Sunday afternoon, and blue sky will be few and far between over the next few days as an expansive rainmaking system slowly invades the Carolinas from the west. Scattered showers arrive overnight into Monday, especially north of the Metro. While most of the moisture clears eastward by the time we wake up on Memorial Day morning, the heavy clouds will stick around throughout the day. A few showers are possible later in the afternoon and evening on our holiday Monday, but most locations remain dry as highs only reach into the mid-60s across the Piedmont and Foothills.
Conditions take a turn for the worse on Tuesday as the bulk of the rain trudges into the WCCB Charlotte viewing area by sunrise. Clouds, widespread rain, and northeasterly winds will make it difficult for the Metro to crack 60º for the first day of the holiday-shortened workweek. Highs jump back into the 70s – and may even approach 80º southeast of the Queen City – on Wednesday, but rain chances linger through much of the week ahead. Warmer and drier weather doesn’t make a return until next weekend at the earliest; this coming Saturday and Sunday appear dry with highs in the lower 80s.
