McMaster signs revenge porn bill into law in South Carolina
SOUTH CAROLINA – People who share intimate images of others without their consent, also known as “revenge porn,” will now face charges.
South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster signed the bill into law on Thursday. The new law makes it a felony offense for people who share intimate images online with the intent to cause physical, mental, economic, or reputational harm to the person depicted.
The General Assembly passed the bill unanimously. A first offense carries a maximum fine of $5,000, and up to five years in prison.
