5 Worst car colors for resale value in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A car’s color can affect how quickly it loses value – costing consumers over $5,000 if they choose the wrong one.

In Charlotte, owners of White, Black and Gray cars will lose the most when it’s time to sell or trade-in their vehicles, according to the latest iSeeCars study that analyzed over 1.2 million vehicles to compare how different colors impact resale value.

For car owners in Charlotte:

  • White cars lose the most value, with a 3-year depreciation of 31.7%

  • Yellow cars retain the most value, with a 3-year depreciation of 22.9%

  • The average 3-year depreciation across all colors is 30.3% or $14,064, compared to a national 3-year depreciation of 31.0% or $14,360

“While bright or obscure colors may not be widely preferred, they tend to be much rarer than mainstream colors on the used market,” said iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer. “This can lead to higher resale value for used vehicles with uncommon colors, where buyer demand outstrips supply.”
