Tijema Brown withdraws her petition to travel to Jamaica amidst federal charges
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – An update to a story we brought you Monday night on WCCB News @ Ten. Tijema Brown, the daughter of Charlotte City Councilwoman Tiawana Brown, has withdrawn a petition seeking permission to visit Jamaica.
Brown was indicted last month along with her mother and sister, Antionette Rouse. They are accused of fraud involving more than $124,000 in COVID-era relief funds. They are accused of using some of the money on a birthday party for Tiawana in Uptown in 2022. Each has pleaded not guilty.
Tijema reportedly planned and paid for a trip to Jamaica before she knew about the fraud investigation and charges. A reason was not given for her with withdraw.
