Rock Hill family to receive recycled Habitat for Humanity home in York County
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Habitat for Humanity of York County invites the public to join in celebrating a new beginning with the Wilson-Smith family at a home dedication ceremony on Sunday, June 8 at 3:00 PM at 364 Soft Winds Village Drive, Rock Hill, SC.
The event marks the completion of ReStored: A Softwinds Village Recycle, a recycled Habitat home that has been refreshed and made ready to welcome a new homebuyer family. Recycled homes are a unique component of Habitat’s mission—originally constructed by Habitat and sold to a qualified buyer, these homes are later sold back to the organization and resold to another family, creating a powerful cycle of opportunity and stability.
“This model represents the true spirit of sustainable homeownership,” said Tim Veeck, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of York County. “When a Habitat homeowner is able to sell their home and move into a new one that meets their family’s evolving needs, it not only reflects their economic progress—it gives another family the chance to begin their own journey toward affordable homeownership.”
Scott Wilson-Smith, a Rock Hill native and longtime York County resident, will purchase the home alongside his parents, Deborah and Scott Smith. Scott, who has worked as a manager at Taco Bell for 12 years, is also training to become a licensed massage therapist. His decision to apply to Habitat’s program was fueled by a deeply personal mission: to care for his parents, especially his father, who survived a life-altering stroke in 2012 and now lives with paralysis and limited speech.
“As the sole provider for my family, I came to Habitat to find a home that’s not just affordable but safe and accessible for my dad,” said Wilson-Smith. “This home means independence for him, peace for my mom, and stability for all of us.”
The dedication will include words of celebration, gratitude to volunteers and supporters, and a special presentation of the keys to the Wilson-Smith family. The public is welcome to attend and witness the power of community collaboration and the promise of affordable homeownership.
