Catawba Co. Sheriff says “it’s infuriating” that judge gave bond to attempted murder suspect

CATAWBA CO., N.C. – A Catawba County judge set a bond of $200,000 for a 20-year-old attempted murder suspect charged in connection to a deadly house party. Authorities say Garon Killian fired shots into a crowd early Sunday morning, killing one person and injuring 11 others. Law enforcement agencies are outraged at the bond amount, which was set against the recommendation of the district attorney. At last check, Garon Killian is still in custody at the Catawba County Detention Center. But, law enforcement agencies are concerned he will make bond and be back on the streets. Authorities charged Killian and Toland Huff, Jr. with attempted murder for shooting down into a crowd of people on Walnut Acres Drive early Sunday morning.

Killian and Huff were both already facing charges before this house party over the weekend. Both were already on pre-trial release for another shooting that happened back in April, where they are accused of shooting into a different crowd of people.

Catawba Co. Sheriff Don Brown says, “(Killian) bonded out of jail on April 14, 48 days (before the house party shooting). 48 days later, all of our lives changed. This is frustrating. It’s infuriating.” Killian’s friend Ohana Calloway says, “I honest to God didn’t think they would give him bond. I didn’t think they would, with all the charges, and I feel like that’s proof of them not having evidence against him specifically.”

Authorities are still looking for Huff and they believe more charges will be filed against both Huff and Killian. If Killian does bond out, he will not be allowed for have guns or be out past a 7PM curfew.
