Summer surges ahead

After a brief lull in the action this Wednesday afternoon, scattered pop-up afternoon storms come back into frame as we trudge toward the weekend.

Happy Hump Day! The heat and humidity are still running strong despite the passage of a cold front last night. Rain chances, however, are few and far between across the western half of the Carolinas due to more stable air rushing in behind the front. Enjoy the “drier” times while they last; rain chances surge back into the WCCB Charlotte viewing area as the front stalls and regresses westward before collapsing. Scattered afternoon pop-up storms return to the forecast on Thursday and carry through Father’s Day weekend. Highs will hang around the mid-to-upper 80s across the Piedmont and Foothills for the next five days.

Our next significant rainmaking system won’t arrive until the holiday weekend. The severe threat doesn’t look particularly impressive right now, but we’ll want to stay weather-wise as the disturbance approaches by Sunday afternoon. Dad’s big day likely won’t be a washout, but you’ll want to keep the rain gear handy as heavy storms may get rolling into the afternoon and evening.
