Steamy pattern carries into Father’s Day
Pop-up afternoon thunderstorms and the clouds they create will be the only things keeping us from 90° over the next week.
We’ve made it into the heart of June – and Father’s Day weekend – and it certainly feels like it. Highs will soar near 90° in the Queen City once again Sunday afternoon as scattered thunderstorms fire up in the afternoon. Dad’s big day won’t be a washout, but a few heavy storms may roll through the WCCB Charlotte viewing area as a Level 1 (out of 5) risk for severe weather is posted northeast of the Metro. Keep an eye to the sky and stay weather-wise as the strongest cells pack gusty winds, torrential rainfall, and small hail.
The hot and humid trend continues into the workweek, but storm chances take a small hit as any significant rainmaking systems stay well north of the Carolinas. That said, we’ll have to watch for isolated storms in the afternoons ahead. Highs will rise into the lower 90s across the Piedmont and Foothills through June’s third week.
