Summer steams ahead

Highs soar near 90° for much of the week ahead - pop-up storms will be the only source of relief from the heat.

Happy Father’s Day! The heat and humidity only surge higher from here. Highs will soar into the mid-to-upper 80s across the Piedmont and Foothills on Monday as partly-to-mostly sunny skies and southwesterly winds make themselves at home across the Carolinas. Temperatures will steadily crawl into the lower 90s around the Metro by midweek, with isolated pop-up storms being the only source of relief from the heat. Heat index values may approach 100° in the Queen City on Wednesday and Thursday.

Our next organized storm chances arrive by Thursday evening as a low-pressure system sweeps far to our north. Expect the corresponding cold front to kick up scattered showers and storms later in the day on Thursday; a few cells may pack gusty winds. The mercury settles back into the upper 80s across the lower elevations in the cold front’s wake, but the spiciness returns by the weekend. Highs may rise into the mid-90s again in the Metro by next Sunday. Right now, next weekend looks hot and mostly sunny with limited rain chances.
