Lake Norman drowning victim identified

IREDELL CO., NC – A man who drowned while boating on Lake Norman over the weekend has been identified as 63-year-old Charles Crowe, Jr. from Sherrills Ford.

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office says Crowe went into the water Saturday evening and had some sort of physical issues.

A woman who was with him jumped into the water to help and also started having problems.

Someone called 911 and lake enforcement deputies responded and got the woman out of the water but they couldn’t find Crowe.

Crews suspended the search at sunset because of the weather, then went back out Sunday and found Crowe’s body.

The North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission is investigating the incident.
