CMPD breaks ground on “police station of the future”

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – CMPD is building the police station of the future. On Tuesday, the department broke ground on the city’s first net-zero carbon police station. The funding for the building was included in the 2019 and 2024 budgets, totaling about $20 million. CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings and a local pastor spoke about the impact the new station will have on the northwest Charlotte community.

Jennings says, “This allows us to reduce our service times and improve overall presence in the community.” Pastor Jack Homesley of Calvary Baptist Church says, “Our church is less than three blocks from here, and we’re thankful every time we see a CMPD officer or cruiser come through.”

The facility is expected to be finished by the middle of 2027.
