Salisbury-Rowan NAACP kicks off its 30th Juneteenth celebration
SALISBURY, N.C. – This is the 30th year for the Salisbury-Rowan NAACP’s Juneteenth celebration. It kicked off with a prayer service Wednesday night. There’s a screening of a documentary on the history of Juneteenth on Friday. The celebration continues through the weekend with it’s big event planned for Saturday.
Salisbury-Rowan NAACP President Gemale Black says it’s all about community. He says, “It’s important to celebrate, to remember our Black heritage. To have our local vendors that support, you know, brown and Black people to come out, our entrepreneurs to have that day in the park, just to just to celebrate and commemorate what we already have going on.”
Saturday’s celebration in Salisbury is at Bell Tower Green. It includes live music and food, along with free trolley tours highlighting the city’s African-American landmarks.
