Today brings a noticeable break from the humidity, dewpoints are down, skies will be mostly sunny, and highs will hover near 90. It’s still hot, but it won’t feel nearly as sticky as the last few days, so a pretty great start to summer. Take advantage of the drop in humidity, it will be a short lived reprieve before the mugginess cranks up this weekend.
Highs will push into the low 90s by Saturday with some of the mugginess returning. A ridge building over the east coast will limit rain and storm chances for the area. By Sunday, heat index values will push into the upper 90s and low 100s across the Piedmont. Then next week, we’re looking at the first real heat wave of the summer. Highs in the upper 90s, feels-like temps near 103 to 105, which puts us in that zone of dangerous heat. Even overnight lows won’t bring much relief, as temps only settle in the mid 70s. The ridge will begin to break down late week, bringing isolated rain and storm chances with a slight drop in temperatures.
