TSA officers found a knife and saw blade inside a cane at Charlotte Douglas Airport.

CHARLOTTE, NC –  Transportation Security Administration officers say they made an unusual discovery inside a man’s walking cane at Charlotte Douglas International.

During a routine x-ray screening on Tuesday, a TSA officer noticed something didn’t seem right, so they did a further inspection.

The officer then found a knife and a saw blade hidden inside the cane.

“The discovery of these concealed items underscores the importance of our screening procedures and the keen attention to detail exhibited by our officers,” said TSA Federal Security Director for North Carolina Gregory Hawko. “I commend the officer for their sharp instincts and dedication to ensuring the safety of all travelers.”

Passengers who bring knives, saw blades and similar sharp objects to airports are only permitted to pack them in checked baggage.

The man with the knife and saw blade in his cane was given the choice of putting in his car, leaving it with a non-traveling companion, placing the cane in checked baggage or voluntarily abandoning the cane at the checkpoint. He chose to leave it with TSA.
