Parents plead guilty after their son is hit, killed by car in Gastonia

GASTONIA, N.C. – The parents of a seven-year-old boy who died after a car hit him in Gastonia have both received suspended sentences.

Samuele Jenkins and Jessica Ivey pleaded guilty Monday to felony child abuse and the district attorney dropped involuntary manslaughter charges.

Legend Jenkins died on May 27th after a car hit him has he crossed Hudson Boulevard with his 10-year-old brother.

The DA told the judge there’s no prison or punishment worse than the parents knowing their decision to let him walk across the street alone led to his death.
