From Mow Money to Mo’ Problems: Lawn guy arrested for throwing massive party at client’s Weddington house

WEDDINGTON, N.C. — He started from the yard but now he’s here: behind bars at the Union County Detention Center.

Imagine hiring a man to mow your lawn and then find out he is throwing a massive party at your house while you are out of town. That’s exactly what Union County deputies say happened over the weekend.

Michael Brown, 37, of Charlotte, is facing numerous charges after authorities say he invited more than 200 people to his client’s house for a party while they were on vacation.

To get even more in the weeds, Brown is also accused of charging an entry fee to get into the party, according to a news release.

Deputies say they received numerous calls for noise complaints and traffic hazards on Saturday, June 21st.

When authorities arrived at the home, located near the intersection of Twelve Mile Creek Road and Beulah Church Road in Weddington, deputies say they found the lawn guy, turned party planner and started their investigation.

Deputies say Brown’s first response to their questioning was that he owned the home.

Authorities then say he told them the house belonged to his grandparents, according to a news release.

“After several additional epic failures at telling the truth, he finally admitted he was the lawn guy and had no relation to the homeowners whatsoever,” according to the press release posted on the Union County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page.

Deputies say they had to call for additional law enforcement departments to help clear the property due to the vast crowd of people at the home.

Authorities say numerous partygoers attempted to leave the area driving recklessly in their vehicles, which led to numerous traffic stops.

Brown was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Breaking and Entering
  • Second Degree Trespass
  • Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor
  • Injury to Real Property
  • Obtaining Property by False Pretenses

Deputies say Brown was released from jail after posting bond which was set at $10,000 by a local judicial official, according to a news release.

Deputies did not say if Brown used the profits from the party to pay his bond.
