UPDATE: Second person dies after crash involving a Charlotte Water truck

UPDATE:

CHARLOTTE, NC – A second person involved in a crash in southeast Charlotte has died from their injuries.

The crash happened on June 12 on Monroe Road near Ashmore Road and Glendora Drive.

Charlotte Mecklenburg Police say a car driven by 55-year-0ld Christina Whitman crossed over the double line and hit a Charlotte Water truck head on.

A passenger in Whitman’s car, 64-year-old  Theodore McCorkle, died the day of the crash. Police say Whitman died from her injuries on June 20, 2025.

The driver of the Charlotte Water truck had serious injuries.

Police believe impairment played a part in the crash and further investigation is needed to determine if Whitman was speeding.

CHARLOTTE, NC – A deadly accident has shut down a portion of a southeast Charlotte road.

The crash happened after 2 p.m. on Monroe Road near Ashmore Road and Glendora Drive.

Police say one person has died.

Charlotte Water says an employee was taken to the hospital. At this time, the condition of that employee is unknown.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area and seek an alternate route.
