BURKE COUNTY, NC – A 3 year old is in the hospital after being shot with an unsecured gun.
Deputies say on Sunday they were called to a home on Berrytown Avenue in Morganton. That’s where the 3-year-old was found with a gunshot wound to the foot.
The child was treated at the scene and then airlifted to the hospital.
During the investigation, investigators say the child was left unsupervised inside the home and found the gun that was not properly secured.
Warrants for felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and misdemeanor failure to secure a firearm in the protection of a minor were issued for the homeowner, Danny Berry.
Berry turned himself in at the Burke County Magistrates’s Office where he was served with the warrants.
He was given a $40,000 unsecured bond and has a court appearance on Thursday.
