CHARLOTTE, NC — Seven people were treated for smoke inhalation late Friday night on the tarmac at Charlotte Douglas Airport, according to Medic. Six of the people were crew members, one was a gate agent.
Medic says six people had minor injuries and one person had serious injuries; all were taken to the hospital.
This happened around 9:00 p.m. Friday night.
According to Medic, there was a slight odor of jet fuel inside the plane. “There were no other readings for anything else.”
Medic also says there were a “few other low-acuity medical calls unrelated to the mass-casualty incident.” Medic transported one other patient with minor symptoms to Novant Presbyterian.
This comes around the same time a ground stop ended for American Airlines flights at CLT. The FAA says American Airlines asked for a ground stop to fix the fallout from today’s tech issues that delayed thousands of flights across the country.
WCCB has reached out to Charlotte Douglas and American Airlines for comment on the mass casualty. We will update the story when we get more information.
