NC DMV now accepting walk-ins all day

North Carolina DMV locations are now accepting walk-ins all day.

The Department of Motor Vehicles says that driver license offices will take customers without appointments all day, as part of an effort to keep people cool during the hot summer months. These changes also aim to get lines moving, streamline the check-in process, and enhance customer comfort.

β€œWe’re committed to making the DMV experience as comfortable and efficient as possible, especially during these scorching summer months,” said NCDMV Commissioner Paul Tine. β€œBy focusing on quick check-ins and allowing customers to wait in cooler, shaded areas, we’re reducing time spent standing in the sun while keeping our offices running smoothly.”

Now, anyone can walk up to a DMV office during normal operating hours. Previously, customers without an appointment had to wait until noon to be seen.

The changes apply to 82 of the 115 driver license offices across the state. The 33 other offices will receive updates that fit their size and restrictions.
