CMPD issues warning about massive increase in cell phone thefts in South End

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – CMPD is putting out a warning about cell phone thieves in South End. WCCB first told you about this in May.

Police say they’ve handled 37 cell phone robberies in the area between the start of the year and last week. That’s a 106-percent increase compared to last year.

The Gin Mill, a bar in the area, has put up warning signs and hired off-duty CMPD officers for security on the weekends.
