Cold front to bring modest relief
We'll want to stay weather-wise for a low-end severe threat on Tuesday as a cold front slices through the Carolinas.
June’s final day will go just like much of the month already has: hot, humid. and stormy. However, some light is at the end of this summery tunnel as we head closer to midweek. We’ll want to stay weather-wise for a low-end severe threat as a cold front slices through the Carolinas between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning. Scattered gusty storms are possible along the front by Tuesday evening across the WCCB Charlotte viewing area, which may linger into early Wednesday as the system slowly trudges eastward.
Slightly cooler and drier air will find its way into the Carolinas by Wednesday evening – but don’t count on it feeling like spring anytime soon. That said, highs near 90° paired with noticeably lower humidity and plentiful sunshine will make for a fantastic final day of the holiday-shortened workweek on Thursday, and the good times appear poised to roll into our July 4th Friday. Storm chances appear minimal at best between Thursday and Saturday. Enjoy!
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has downgraded Barry to a tropical depression shortly after making landfall Sunday evening in eastern Mexico as a tropical storm. Barry will continue to deliver soaking rains to our friends south of the border as it degenerates. Barry won’t be a problem for the Carolinas, but the NHC is monitoring another potential system that we’ll want to watch closely. Right now, an area between the northeastern Gulf Coast and the South Carolina coastline has a 20% chance of development as our incoming front stalls to our southeast. Stay tuned for updates.
