Elisa Baker to be released from state prison on July 2

CALDWELL CO., N.C. – A Caldwell County woman who murdered her step-daughter will be released from state prison this week, but she will not be free.

Elisa Baker has spent nearly 14 years in prison for the second degree murder of Zahra Baker.

10-year-old Zahra, a cancer survivor, was reported missing in 2010. Her dismembered remains were found in several locations in Caldwell County.

When Elisa Baker is released on Wednesday, July 2, she will go directly into federal custody to serve 10 years for unrelated drug trafficking charges.
