Hornets trade for Connecticut’s Liam McNeely and future first-round pick

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (News Release) – The Charlotte Hornets have acquired the draft rights to forward Liam NcNeeley, the No. 29 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, a 2029 first-round draft pick and guard Vasa Micic from the Phoenix Suns for center Mark Williams and a second-round pick swap in the 2026 NBA Draft. Along with all of their own first-round draft picks, the Hornets also have made moves for additional first-round draft picks via trades in 2026, 2027, 2029.

McNeeley, a 6-7 forward from Connecticut, averaged 14.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists as a freshman. He led Connecticut in scoring and ranked second in rebounding and was named 2024-25 Big East Freshman of the Year and a 2024-25 All Big East Third Team selection.

Micic has averaged 6.8 points and 3.9 assists per game with Oklahoma City, Charlotte and Phoenix.

Williams, who was selected by Charlotte with the 15th pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, averaged 12.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.1 blocks over 77 starts. He ranks second all-time in Hornets history in field goal percentage (62.2%) and seventh all-time in rebounds per game.
