Iredell Co. Sheriff’s Deputy shoots man with knife who was trying to get inside a Family Dollar

IREDELL CO., N.C. – A deputy shot an armed suspect outside a Family Dollar in Iredell County. It happened around 3:30 Monday afternoon in the town of Harmony.

An Iredell County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a welfare call, and found a man trying to enter the store with a knife. There were customers inside the store. The deputy parked his car in front of the store’s entrance and tried to get the man to drop the weapon. The deputy then tried to Tase him. The deputy says the man kept walking toward the store. That’s when the deputy fired his gun and shot the suspect.

The man was taken to the hospital where he is in stable condition. The deputy was not hurt.

The SBI is investigating.
