$1.5m worth of cars seized during illegal street racing operation
CHARLOTTE, NC – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department along with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol seized five cars worth more than $1.5 million on Friday, according to CMPD.
Investigators say the vehicles were being used for illegal street racing, and that three of the vehicles were connected to national groups known for illegal street racing activity.
More than 40 law enforcement personnel worked together on the operation.
Police say 33-year-old Thomas Esposito, 44-year-old Kassey Howeth, and 35-year old Kathrina Kava are charged with street takeover.
Two others, 23-year old Michael Johnson Jr., and 25-year-old Alexander Zavaleta were cited for prearranged speed competition.
The seized cars include two Lamborghini Huracans, an Audi R8, a Ford Mustang and a BMW 340XI.
