Drier into holiday weekend
Your 4th of July weekend looks hot, sunny, and dry.
Happy Hump Day! Tuesday marked Charlotte’s 13th-straight day in the 90s, but that streak likely comes to an end today as a passing cold front leaves cooler air in its wake. That said, it won’t exactly feel like fall as highs likely end up in the mid-to-upper 80s across the Piedmont and Foothills as the showers and clouds fade away in the afternoon. Don’t expect the “cooldown” to last long; highs quickly warm back into the 90s on Thursday. While this passing front won’t do much for us in the temperature department, it will bring us a significant dry stretch as we round into the holiday weekend.
Dew points – a direct measure of humidity – will fall into the mid-60s and stay there through the entirety of the July 4th weekend, keeping the mugginess and rain chances at bay. Expect a hot, sunny, and mainly dry holiday weekend as highs cruise well into the 90s. Rain chances and humidity levels rise again by the start of next week, thanks in part to the tropics.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has upgraded the region off our coast to a 40% chance of development over the next seven days. Medium-range models continue to point toward some tropical organization as our incoming front stalls over the Atlantic. While it’s unlikely anything significant develops over the next few days, we’ll want to stay weather-wise heading into next week. The next name on the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season list is Chantal.
