ROCK HILL, S.C. – New information from investigators says the woman who was shot by a Rock Hill Police officer was armed with a BB gun, according to a news release from SLED.
Around 6 p.m. Saturday, July 5th deputies responded to Nassaw Circle and Young Warrior Town Drive in regards to a woman shooting out of her Jeep.
A deputy located the Jeep stopped on Noostee Town Drive but as they approached, the woman pointed the firearm at the deputy before fleeing, the sheriff’s office said.
A police chase ensued and Stop Sticks were successfully deployed to deflate the Jeep’s tires. The woman allegedly stopped her vehicle on Cheryl Lynn Drive near Sturgis Road.
Deputies say they attempted to negotiate with the woman to get out of the vehicle but were unsuccessful. After several attempts, a Rock Hill police officer reportedly fired one shot that hit the woman in the shoulder, authorities said.
The woman, who has not been identified at this time, received aid at the scene before being transported to the hospital. She is in stable condition.
No deputies or officers were injured in the shooting. York County Sheriff’s Office says they are pursuing criminal charges against the woman.
The incident is under investigation by the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division. This is the first officer involved shooting for the Rock Hill Police Department this year, according to a news release from SLED.
