CHARLOTTE, N.C. – An officer was shot and a suspect is in custody following an altercation in Uptown early Sunday morning.
Around 6:15 a.m., an off-duty officer responded to the 600 block of North Church Street. When the officer arrived, police said he got into a physical altercation with the suspect.
A firearm was discharged during the incident, resulting in the officer being shot in the leg, police said.
The suspect fled the scene but was arrested shortly after.
The injured officer was treated on scene and was transported to the hospital to undergo surgery. Police said he is in serious but stable condition.
