Messy midweek, watching for rain & wind threats
Heavy, gusty storms may lead to localized flash flooding over the next few days.
Happy Hump Day! The Queen City topped out at 98° for a second straight day on Tuesday, but temperatures will fall back to earth a bit as clouds, showers, and storms fire up this Wednesday afternoon. A Level 2 (out of 5) severe risk has been posted for much of the Metro today as heavy, gusty storms bring the potential for localized flash flooding and damaging wind. Another Level 2 threat has also been issued for the WCCB Charlotte viewing area on Thursday for similar reasons as a frontal boundary remains to our north. While it’s not a guarantee everyone gets wet both today and tomorrow, most communities will see at least 1-2″ of rain over the next 48 hours, with localized amounts approaching 6″. The good news is that most of the area can handle this kind of rain, as many of us haven’t seen a drop over the past 5-7 days.
Rain chances return to a more isolated range Friday through the weekend. Temperatures will range between the upper 80s and mid-to-lower 90s over the next five days depending on when and where the storms form. Outside of a few afternoon storms, your weekend looks mainly hot and sunny – perfect lake/river weather. The classic summertime pattern continues into early next week.
