Hot & stormy pattern continues, tropical trouble stirring in Gulf

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring the northern Gulf for development this week.

The torrid temperatures continue this Tuesday as the Queen City appears poised to crack 90° for a ninth-straight day, which would also make for 25 out of 26 days in the 90s. Highs will be tempered slightly by afternoon scattered thunderstorms; while there’s no severe risk in effect for the WCCB Charlotte viewing area today, a few of these storms could be on the heavy side. Rain chances fall toward the back half of the week as a once-stalled front to our north lifts away from the Carolinas. While a few isolated-to-stray storms will hang around between Wednesday and Friday, most locations will remain dry. Temperatures will take advantage of the calmer pattern, running well into the 90s by the end of the workweek.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) continues to monitor an area of low pressure just off the east coast of Florida for tropical development. While we likely won’t see a tropical storm today, the budding system now has a 40% chance of development by the end of the week as it treks westward and emerges over the northern Gulf. Regardless of development, this storm will almost certainly bring heavy rain to the central Gulf Coast; some of this moisture could find its way into the Carolinas by the start of next week. The next name on the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season list is Dexter.
