Union groups protest, accuse Wells Fargo of employee intimidation

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A rally in Uptown Tuesday was aimed at stopping alleged ‘union busting’ at Wells Fargo.

The Communications Workers of America teamed up with several other union groups to push for change outside the Wells Fargo Center in Uptown.

The groups accuse the bank of intimidating its employees, and spreading misinformation in an attempt to stop them from unionizing, something Wells Fargo denies.

Walter Haynes works at Wells Fargo. He tells WCCB, “We’re open to unionize. We are here to unionize so that we can get contracts to protect our jobs. To fight back against the misinformation and fear mongering Wells Fargo is weaponizing against its own employees to stop us from having a voice for ourselves.”

The CWA has filed an unfair labor practice complaint against Wells Fargo with the National Labor Relations Board.

In response to Tuesday’s rally, Wells Fargo told WCCB Charlotte it rejects the union’s allegations ofΒ  “union busting” or disseminating misinformation.

It also said none of the pending charges filed by the CWA have been fully adjudicated within the NLRB’s own process, Β and that the CWA only represents about 200 employees or fewer than 1% of Wells Fargo’s overall workforce.

In a statement, Wells Fargo said that it , “…respects the rights of our employees and other interested parties to express their views…” And, “We’re committed to understanding and addressing the concerns of our employees.”
