16-year-old boy drowns in Lake Norman

MOORESVILLE, N.C. – The Iredell Co. Sheriff’s Office says it’s pulled the body of a 16-year-old boy out of the water. He has been identified as Kaleb Lamar Shields.

It happened Thursday evening the area of Catalina Drive in Mooresville. We’re told Shields was swimming in the lake, went under the water, and never came back up. Crews searched for about three and a half hours before finding his body using an underwater drone.

Sheriff Darren Campbell says, “We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the young individual whose life was lost today.”
