Chase ends in deadly crash at South Carolina state line
A woman is dead after a chase involving a stolen SUV ended in a crash at the South Carolina state line.
The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were told the SUV entered the county around 2:40 a.m. Saturday.
The driver led deputies on a chase on Highway 18, then continued into South Carolina where it crashed into a ditch on Dravo Road.
Deputies arrested a backseat passenger on drug charges. A woman in the front passenger seat died shortly after the wreck.
The driver, Gary Martin, ran away, but the York County Sheriff’s Office says its bloodhound team arrested him a short time later. He is facing multiple charges, including possession of a stolen motor vehicle, felony elude, careless, and reckless driving, and several traffic-related offenses.
