Dangerous heat Monday with big changes looming Β
Heat index values past 105 on Monday with a pleasant middle of the week!Β
Another scorcher in the Queen City is on tap for your Monday with temperatures soaring into the upper 90s across the Piedmont. That, combined with an oppressively muggy air mass, has led to newly issued heat advisories for all counties along and south of I-85. This is where heat index values will pass 105. North of I-85 will still see extreme heat, but heat index values look to mostly remain just a degree or two below 105. The High Country will enjoy temperatures in the low 80s thanks to higher rain chances as NW flow ramps up.
Rain chances in the Piedmont look to be mostly isolated in nature for your Monday afternoon, but try to pick up in coverage as we enter the evening. Some of these storms could become strong to severe with heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds. Models are struggling with this potential, so Iβm keeping rain chances at 40%, but make sure to keep those notifications on for the latest! As we enter the overnight on Monday, a few storms will linger. By Tuesday, we finally break the oppressive heat with a backdoor cold front crossing the region. Tuesday looks to remain muggy, but increasing clouds will help to keep temperatures near to slightly below average. Tuesday evening, the front passes, and much drier air funnels in which sets the stage for a beautiful Wednesday! This means comfortable humidity and slightly below average temperatures for Wednesday and Thursday. Unfortunately, things start to get hot and humid again as we end the week.
