Flames destroy historic church
A historic South Carolina church was destroyed in a fire on Saturday afternoon.
Fire burned through the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Darlington, South Carolina. That’s about two hours southeast of Charlotte.
The building dates back to 1910. The congregation, founded in 1869, is said to be one of the oldest organized African-American churches in Darlington County.
Local and state investigators are trying to determine exactly what caused that fire.
