Teen dead and another teen in custody after shooting at Pageland Watermelon Festival

PAGELAND, S.C. – One 17-year-old is dead and another facing murder charges after a shooting at the Pageland Watermelon Festival. Police responded to the shooting Friday night where they found a teen boy had been shot at the popular festival.

Chesterfield County Sheriff confirms 17-year-old Jayden Jefferies is facing murder charges in connection to the shooting. He was booked at the Chesterfield County Detention Center and is being held without bond.

In a Facebook post, Central High School identifies the victim as 17-year-old Sean Davis. Davis was a rising senior student athlete at the school. Tributes are pouring in on social media from teachers, coaches and loved ones.

Central High School is making counselors available on campus starting at 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Hours after the shooting, the Town of Pageland posted that the Watermelon Festival events would continue as planned on Saturday. Comments under the social media post expressed criticism. By 7:30 a.m. the Town of Pageland posted the events would be cancelled out of respect for the victim and his family.

The Pageland Watermelon Festival shuts down Pearl and McGregor Streets in the downtown area annually.
