Magmatic Monday, brief relief in sight

Humidity levels take a noticeable tumble as a cold front sweeps through the Carolinas from the northeast on Tuesday.

We’re back to the grind this Monday as highs crack 90° in the Queen City for a 15th-straight day, but some sweet relief is in sight as a backdoor cold front approaches the Carolinas from the northeast. It won’t exactly feel like fall on Tuesday and Wednesday, but humidity levels take a noticeable tumble as temperatures possibly slump below 90° for the first time in over two weeks. We’ll have to watch out for a few scattered storms today (Monday) and tomorrow (Tuesday) as the cold front passes by, but no severe weather is in the forecast.

Enjoy the cooler and drier times while they last – temperatures soar back into the mid-90s by the end of the workweek. Humidity levels and rain chances also rise once again into next weekend, restoring the classic summertime pattern as we head into July’s homestretch. Heat index values will regularly approach 105° between Friday and Sunday of this coming weekend. Only nine weeks to go until fall!

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring a new area for tropical development in the open Atlantic. The region for possible tropical formation is located just east of the Caribbean; the NHC gives this location a 20% chance of spawning our next named storm. No immediate tropical threats will reach the Carolinas over the next seven days, but this area is certainly worth watching this week. The next name on the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season list is Dexter.
