Brief relief from summer heat & humidity

Rain chances remain low through at least Thursday.

A high of 99° put the Queen City in the 90s for a 15th straight day on Monday, but that streak is in serious jeopardy this Tuesday afternoon as a cold front drags cooler and drier air into the Carolinas from the north. It won’t exactly feel like fall, but highs likely end up about 10° cooler than they were on Monday; expect upper 80s across the Piedmont and Foothills for our second day of the workweek. Humidity levels will also take a tumble as we head into Wednesday as dew points fall from the mid-70s into the lower 60s. Enjoy the “cooler” and drier times while they last – the heat and humidity surge back stronger than ever by the weekend.

Outside of a stray shower or storm south of the Metro this Tuesday afternoon, rain chances remain few and far between through at least Thursday. Highs return to the mid-90s by Friday as dew points build back into the 70s. Even with the return of the classic summer feels, opportunities for rain don’t spike, likely remaining into the stray-to-isolated range through the weekend. Afternoon temperatures may crest near 100° between Saturday and Tuesday as heat indices soar even higher; all the more reason to enjoy the more pleasant conditions this week while they last.
