Dry Wednesday, miserably hot stretch ahead

Highs may crack 100° around the Metro this weekend.

Happy Hump Day! Charlotte somehow managed to crack 90° on Tuesday for a 16th-straight day despite the clouds, showers, and northeasterly winds, and it doesn’t look like our hot streak will come to an end anytime soon. That said, noticeably drier air is settling into the Carolinas from the northeast this Wednesday morning, setting us up for what should be a fantastic afternoon in lower 90s across the Piedmont and Foothills. Enjoy the lower humidity levels while they last – summer will show us she has plenty left in the tank by the end of the week.

Highs will surge into the upper 90s around the Metro on Friday before heating up even further into July’s final weekend. The Queen City will have multiple opportunities to hit the century mark between this Saturday and Wednesday of next week as an oppressive heat dome sets up across the eastern half of the country. Heat index values will regularly approach 110° across the Piedmont and Foothills within this timeframe.
