Federal funding cuts impact Charlotte’s PBS station WTVI

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Recent cuts to federal funding by the Trump Administration are set to hit public broadcasting hard. Lawmakers just approved $1.1 billion to be taken away from PBS and NPR stations across the nation, and that includes Charlotte’s PBS station WTVI.

In a statement, WTVI told WCCB Charlotte, “Our team has been meeting with fellow PBS stations across the nation to collaborate and learn from one another as we all digest the full impacts.”

The station goes on to say, “We have taken significant measures over the last several years to create reserves and have not backfilled vacant roles as we were monitoring the potential federal decisions. This has positioned us to continue operating for the near term, but we do and will continue to rely on expanded donations from our community members – and we appreciate any additional contributions from the community at this point.”
