Charlotte ranked in 2025’s 100 itchiest cities

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Summer’s here, but for North Carolinians, it’s bringing more rashes than relaxation—thanks to brutal allergies and relentless outdoor pests. Nearly 1 in 5 are staying indoors this summer to avoid bugsSo which cities in the Tar Heel State are the itchiest when it comes to seasonal allergies, bug invasions, poison ivy, and other outdoor irritants?

To find out, Ivarest ranked 100 U.S. cities by their “itch factor” using allergy severity, pest control access, poison ivy prevalence, and Google search interest for bug spray and rash relief. Ivarest also surveyed 1,000 Americans to learn how outdoor irritants are disrupting their summer plans. Per usual, North Carolina made their presence known!

Some Key Findings:

  • Raleigh is the itchiest city in NC at #19.
  • Charlotte landed at #37 on the itch index.
  • Greensboro is ranked at #41.
  • Durham (48), and Winston-Salem (49) closed out the remaining NC cities in the rankings.
  • 3 out of 5 Americans say outdoor irritants have ruined summer activities like gardening, BBQs, and family gatherings.
