Salvation Army says it needs donations to help keep homeless women and children cool

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – With the dangerous temperatures, The Salvation Army says donations are needed to help keep homeless women and children cool. The Salvation Army’s Center of Hope is activating its “extreme heat overflow” space, which provides daytime relief from the heat for those who need it.

Maj. Andrew Wiley, Area Commander for The Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte says, “It’s just unbearable, as we all know, to be out in that heat. And so we want to create a space where people can come in, get a break from that, have something nice and cold to drink and just get a break from it. It’s just tough being out there. And we want to be a resource that helps people not have to endure that.”

To help, The Salvation Army is asking for financial donations, which can be made by visiting their website. They’re also asking for additional supplies like bottled water and sports drinks, which can be dropped off at the Center of Hope location on Spratt Street.
