The Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte requesting community support during extreme heat advisory
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – With temperatures forecasted to reach triple digits for the next five days, The Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte’s Center of Hope is executing measures to combat the heat.
During extreme heat events during the summer months, the Center of Hope activates an Extreme Heat Overflow space for individuals experiencing homelessness who are not residing at the shelter.
This overflow space provides daytime relief from dangerous heat conditions, like those forecasted during the coming week. Unsheltered single women and women with children are able to check in at 1 p.m. at the Center of Hope (534 Spratt Street) for daytime relief.
Individuals will have access to cool indoor space during the heat of the day, as well as cafeteria amenities and water throughout the day.
To adequately serve both shelter and overflow guests during the extreme heat advisory, The Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte is asking for community help by making a financial donation online at SalvationArmyCharlotte.org. [Direct donation link here.]
In addition, The Salvation Army is requesting the following additional supplies:
-
Cases of water
-
Gatorade/Powerade/Sports Drinks
-
Cooling towels (New)
-
Twin Sheets & Bath Towels (New)
Donations can be dropped off at The Salvation Army Center of Hope, located at 534 Spratt Street, Charlotte, NC 28206, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please ask for Evelyn or Zakia on arrival.
