Unusual pattern promotes active weather
Rain chances rising, with tropical development possible this week.
If you’re a fan of rollercoasters, then the past 10 days have been a blast. Last weekend we broke record high temperatures, while today we sit nearly 15° below average. This fall like weather continues to start the work week, but rain chances rise. Highs tomorrow near 80 in the Piedmont, and close out near 70 in the High Country with cloudy skies area wide. We are already seeing some showers across the viewing area, but by Monday night rain chances really rise across the area with showers becoming a common sight. This will start a pattern of unsettled weather this week. Right now, Tuesday and Wednesday look to be the wettest with widespread rain and thunderstorms both days. This keeps temperatures well below average with many not seeing the 80s. By Thursday rain chances could come down a bit, but it looks like every day this week will have at least a moderate chance of rain. High temperatures generally rise by the end of the week into the 80s. The pattern causing this rain, and cooler temperatures is one that is notoriously difficult to forecast around here, so stay tuned and plan for tweaks to the forecast!
Now to another unsolved mystery in the forecast, the tropics…
There are now 3 areas to watch for development in the Atlantic over the next seven days. 2 of those are close to home, just off the Carolina coast. One of them is likely to form into Dexter, and pull out to sea without any problems outside of rough seas. The other area gets caught up near our coastline and could form into a storm. The track of this will be key, but all we know right now is it will increase the chances of rain wherever it goes, regardless of if it gets a name or not. Should it impact us, that would generally be around next weekend, so plenty of time to watch!
