Charlotte woman claims construction on next door home is causing her property to flood

CHARLOTTE, NC — A south Charlotte woman claims construction on a new home next to her house is causing her property to flood.

Ann Warren said she’s never had flooding on her turf lawn before.

Warren says her property on Magnolia Ave that she owns and rent in Dilworth has been flooding for nearly a year, around the time construction on a new home next door started.

“The vast majority of the damage happens in the back when water runs actually around the wall that was built,” explained Warren.

Warren said the retaining wall between her rental property and the new house, also leaks. All that water first goes to her garage.

Warren says the contractor for Ram Construction offered to clean the garage about six months ago but it hasn’t happened yet.

Warren claims the contractor offered to pay $1,200 to repair the turf. She later found out the entire yard would need to be replaced. Costing about $20k. Between the turf and damage to her flooded crawl space, you estimates the total damage to be around $25k and the contractor is not willing to pay it.

WCCB spoke to the Ram Construction contractor over the phone but he would not speak on the record.

The city sent a statement saying that the original plan did not include grading and that “Based on the work that has been completed at the site, Storm Water Services has requested a new plan from the developer that must be submitted for review, showing the current conditions and any proposed drainage systems they will be installing.”
