Statesville man sentenced to up to 20 years behind bars after investigation that started when an unresponsive 13-month-old baby was taken to the hospital

 

STATESVILLE, N.C. – A Statesville man has been sentenced after he was convicted of child abuse and sex offenses involving children. Statesville Police say they started investigating Christopher Torres after an unresponsive 13-month-old infant was taken to Iredell Memorial Hospital in February of 2024.

Torres was charged with numerous felonies in March 2025, including First Degree Statutory Sex Offense, Statutory Rape, and Felony Child Abuse Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury. The investigation found multiple victims, several of which are children.

On Friday, Torres pleaded guilty via an Alford plea. He was sentenced to up to nearly 20 years behind bars. When he is released, he will have to register as a sex offender.
