Man arrested for murder of woman on light rail in South End
CHARLOTTE, NC — The man accused of the brutal murder of a woman on a light rail train in south Charlotte is out of the hospital and behind bars.
Decarlos Brown was officially arrested Thursday morning.
WCCB Charlotte has learned Brown and the victim never interacted before the attack, according to court documents.
Detectives say surveillance video from inside the train show the victim, 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska, get on the train Friday night and sit directly in front of Brown.
An affidavit says the train traveled for about four and a half minutes before the video shows Brown pull a folding knife from his pocket and stabs the Ukrainian refugee in the throat.
Police arrested Brown on the light rail platform on Camden road.
Zarutska died on the train.
Brown is due in court Friday morning.
