Temperatures rising again, modest rain chances lurk ahead

Your holiday weekend won't be a washout, but scattered showers may roll through at times between Friday evening and Labor Day Monday morning.

Another cool morning has greeted us as we kick off August’s final Thursday, but temperatures will be on the rise as we head into the holiday weekend. That said, highs this afternoon will top out near 80° once again across the Piedmont and Foothills as mostly cloudy skies roll through the WCCB Charlotte viewing area. More sunshine returns for our final day of the workweek, allowing the mercury to rise much closer to normal in the mid-80s around the Metro as we slide into the holiday weekend.

Your Labor Day weekend certainly won’t be a washout, but we’ll want to watch for rain chances between Friday evening and Labor Day Monday morning as a moisture-laden air mass pushes into the Carolinas from the south. A dry cold front will do its best to keep the showers at bay as it slices through the Queen City by Saturday afternoon, but models suggest it may fail to do so. Despite the increasing clouds and rain chances, highs around the Metro will still end up in the mid-80s on Saturday before another cooldown arrives on Sunday. Your Labor Day Monday likely won’t be a great pool day as high pressure sets up to our north, giving us a winter-wedge-like setup as we close out the holiday weekend. Temperatures may struggle to clear the 70s through the first two days of September.
